Jazmynn Tillett- Spice Your Appetite

As the founder Grenada’s first and only vegan restaurant, Rumors, catering to individuals with special dietary needs. Located in a charming waterfront setting, my Grenadian business partner and I transformed an old house through extensive repainting, redesigning, and rebuilding, establishing Rumors as a beloved vegan hotspot and one of Grenada’s most renowned eateries.
Inspired by Grenada’s reputation as the Spice Island and its abundant spice resources, I envisioned a unique initiative to blend agriculture with tourism. Thus, Spice Your Appetite was born—an innovative program proposed to top cruise ship leaders visiting Grenada. It quickly gained recognition as one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive offerings, pioneering a concept that was entirely new to the region.
Spice Your Appetite featured an interactive presentation showcasing local, natural foods, spices, vegetables, and fruits grown across Grenada. Visitors could explore these ingredients firsthand—seeing, touching, and smelling them—before attending an informative session on their origins, culinary uses, and medicinal properties.

Following this educational experience, guests enjoyed leisure time on the beach or within the presentation venue, culminating in a meal crafted from the showcased ingredients.
The program garnered enthusiastic support from both cruise ship operators and the Grenadian government, earning praise for its innovative approach to promoting local agriculture and cultural heritage.

Additionally, we launched a social enterprise initiative producing handmade products, such as spice bags and items crafted from leaves and recycled brown paper. These products were created by individuals facing various challenges, including single mothers and people with disabilities, generating significant revenue—over $14,000 USD—for these communities.

This program and the products made were also presented to hed of the CARICOM who met in Grenada and was received with an overwhelming positive feedback

Unfortunately, the program was discontinued following a devastating hurricane that severely impacted Grenada, but its legacy lives on as a testament to the intersection of culinary creativity, sustainable tourism, and community empowerment.
